A closer look
Awareness sits at the heart of ACE’s work: helping people understand the environment around them and giving them the tools to protect it. Much of this effort centres on geoscience and education for sustainable development, including the GeoEducation and GeoConservation programme in Jezzine and the development of a Lebanese ‘Lithothèque’ e-platform that strengthens the capacities of eco-citizens.
ACE takes this knowledge to national and international audiences. The organisation has taken part in the First International Congress on Geoscience, “Earth Sciences for Society” (ICG1) in El Jadida, Morocco, contributed to conferences such as CREEMO at Université Saint Joseph, and helped prepare the 4th International Conference on Geoparks in Africa and the Middle East (ICGAME4).
Closer to home, ACE marks the International Geodiversity Day through its Geodiversity Workshop series, joins the International Forum for Environmental Humanities, and delivers hands-on training. Under the LiF project, for example, the team led sessions for the Anjar Eco Park staff and local youth, guiding them through Lebanon’s geology and how to share it with visitors.
