This action aims to support sustainable development by studying, documenting, and raising awareness of the geological and cultural significance of three heritage geosites in Lebanon.
ACE studies the geological and geomorphological character of the sites through mapping, photo-interpretation, and GIS analysis. Using a diachronic approach that draws on maps and aerial photographs, the team also assesses how human activities — from environmental degradation to urban expansion — have affected each site over time.
To ensure that protection reflects local realities, ACE conducts surveys to understand how the people concerned, including residents and tourists, perceive these places. Together, this evidence strengthens the contribution of geo-conservation to the sustainable development of the targeted regions.
